Clapton, Richards, Edge and now David Gilmour have auctioned of the instruments that were used to create some of the most iconic music in the history of music and it's breaking my heart.
Topics covered:
-guitars should be played
-more care should be given to where these instruments end up
-guitars in glass cases don't make any music

Even Eddie Van Halen admits that he was not the first to make use of the now famous two hand tapping technique. Steve Hackett of Genesis claims to be the first recorded tapper. There are some rock fans who believe that Ace Frehley did it before that. However, as you will learn two hand tapping goes back a lot farther in history any most people realise.
Topics covered:
-Tapping... not really all that crazy of an idea
-the classical connection
-tal farlow, harvey mandel and steve hackett
-the popularization of tapping

In the mid 1980's, shortly after the release of The Final Cut, Roger Waters attempted to legally disband Pink Floyd. Thank the maker, he did not succeed in this endeavor. What he DID succeed in was alienated the band's other leader and kicking himself out of his own band. On today's Rockin' Rant I dicuss this cauntionary tale and what lessons can be learned from it.
Topics covered:
-Gilmour has as many if not more supporters that Waters
-The Final Cut and the humilation of Gilmour
-Life after Waters
-a late reconciliation

Eddie Trunk said it better than I did. The Grammys snub their nose at rock and metal and continue to alienate more music fans. Is this a symptom of a larger problem with corporate media in general?
Topics covered:
-rock and metal not even televised
-nominies show a complete lack of knowledge of the genres?

Today's show is in response to a question that I had from a fan who wanted to know how to "make it" as a local band. This is a HUGE subject with many points that need to be addressed. This will be the first in a long series of podcasts on local music. Today I am going to address this question from the audience's point of view.
Topics covered:
-are they awesome?
-going to a live show can be a pain in the butt
-why would you leave the comfort of your home to go out to some nasty club?
-do you have better things to do?
-the competition is so much better

My latest work came together in the form of an EP. I’ve written a lot of material over the last couple years and rather than creating a double album, I’ve chosen to release a series of EPs for this project.
We recorded the first EP, Faded Photographs, at my studio in Marin County and explored my current cultivation of songs with a new philosophy and an unfamiliar methodology. I brought most of the songs in fresh so everyone worked on them with a first instinct kind of prospective. For me, Faded Photographsreveals a metamorphosis in my writing. An evolution of looking back on the last 10 years of my life, letting go, and moving on. Like many of my lyrics, the album reflects on harder times with hope for greater days ahead.
“Come Down”, the single off the record expresses that exact sentiment. It’s an introspective song looking back on days when my addictions were out of control and holding on to how I currently feel today in more healthy lifestyle. Participating in the light as opposed to checking out into darkness. We had a ball making this album with an amazing collection of hearts that resulted in a record I am very proud of. My line up has changed over the years but our mission remains the same. To spread love through the art of music and hopefully give people the emotional responses we all share and find in the music we love the most.

Tortured cries from the supernatural haunt the punishing mystical metal of Ukraine’s Vovkulaka. The band’s singer-drummer-songwriter VolK is a dark conduit for paranormal activity and channels his explorations in this realm into his band’s tribal and occultist thrashings. The results are brutal and anthemic—white knuckle-rides that add new flesh to the bones of Korn, Pantera, Rob Zombie, and even Babymetal. Live, the band is something like a sexy séance, with a trio of musicians being joined onstage by a pair of stunning female dancers moving ceremoniously to the cathartic musical onslaught. Vovkulaka’s longtime producer is modern heavy music legend Darian Rundall (Pennywise, Suicidal Tendencies, Yellowcard).Internationally, the group is spreading its infectious call to arms #painneversoundedsogood with one-off shows, and making festival appearances back home in Ukraine, in Europe, and, in the near future, in the U.S.
